Mama(n)datory

Living motherhood fearlessly

Just to update on this medium, my daughter Mayesa had gotten a confirmed placement in the primary school we've chosen. Nothing fancy, nothing out of ordinary for our selection, just that it's nearest to home. Easy commute for me too, to send her into her big school and to send the little one to her pre-school that's located just opposite section.

I made the selection. I prepared the necessary documents. I submitted the application, both online and physically in school. I checked the result.

Excited much? Yes, and no. My baby's stepping into a primary school soon, I should be and should not be happy at the same time. If you know what I mean.

And, it wasn't just excitement. If I didn't do all the works, I mean, who else would be doing it? If you know what I mean.

Urgh, men.

Mayesa had her first school trip to the chocolate factory, back in March.

I know I'm backdated wayyyy too long, but it'd better be kept here now than never.
So yeah.

The trip wasn't a compulsory and no surprise that I was a little reluctant at first to let her go. She had been asking us to bring her on a bus ride around town but we kept dreading on it, distracting her towards other interests and attractions.

We decided to let her join on the school trip - to get her first bus ride, although with a heavy heart.

I teared sending her to school that morning, knowing that she'd be gone for half the day without me to a place I've never been to and with only her teachers and friends. Typical emotional mommy tears.

Alhamdulillah she got back safe and sound with joyful stories from her trip. Mama is proud of you, babygirl. Grow up well, learn and experience as much as you can. InshaAllah you will always be in safe hands, and in Allah's protection.

5 days of break for Chinese New Year. What did we do? Balik kampung, just like everyone else.

Just that this particular kampung is in Denai Alam - only a short 15 minutes drive from home.

The urge to go for a short family getaway had to be put on hold. We didn't have the will to brave the holiday traffic and skyrocketed price. We're already going for one in late March anyway, so we shall stay put in town for another month.
Happy Chinese New Year 2018!

I was actually secretly hoping for Mayesa's school to have a CNY celebration once the school reopens. The image of her in my head - clad in a traditional qi pao, with a space bun hair - is just too adorable. To date, no info on a celebration being held in school, so I'm still holding myself back from buying that red qi pao I fell in love with the other day. I doubt they're going to have one. Meh.

All I got from her school's message book yesterday was a letter informing of an upcoming school trip in mid March. 0_o My little girl going on a school trip, on a school bus, with only her teachers and friends; no mama tagging along, like seriously?

I gave her the green light, of course, but deep down I'm having a hard time letting her go. Drama, much?
No, I won't be that mom escorting her bus, spying on her little daughter to and fro..or will I?

ssshhhhhh....

So Mayesa has started her pre-school years.

Prim and proper for school
She had no trouble getting up early in the morning. In fact she was so eager to get to her first day of school that she quickly had only a few bites of her grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast. Mama was over excited too; mama only realized whilst we were already in the car ready to leave the house that her school starts at 815am for the first two (orientation) days instead of 745am.

So we made a stop at McDonald's for coffee, and milo.

We arrived just minutes before her school starts.
She was seated with a group of girls, whom she (rather)quickly became friends with within minutes. Alhamdulillah she is such a champ, following through her first class of singing, coloring, and writing. Of course we waited the whole two hours outside her classroom on her very first day of school; and she kept waving and giving us a thumbs up to tell us that she's doing fine.
Today we left her to be on her own in school.
She told me she didn't cry, but she did have a pool in her eyes when we waved goodbye. Just a little, normal anxiety.

We are proud parents.
So proud.
Syukur, Alhamdulillah.

She's done with her two days' orientation, and tomorrow is the beginning of it all.
No more sending her right to her classroom and no more waiting outside her class.

I hope she'll be alright.
I know she'll be alright.

Proud. Proud. Proud of my little (grown) girl.
